Levitate is Goodnight my darling’s first official release. The EP is made up of five immersive lo-fi hip hop, and dreamy tracks.
Levitate was created to bring light to a topic we don't often speak about, death. In the hope that it becomes less taboo and in someway less scary. My research for the EP was heavily influenced by the film ‘Death Makes Life Life Possible’, director Mark Krigbaum, which offers a different more positive perspective of death.
Synthesis My nana has Alzheimer's disease -- and although that sucks I am grateful that I am here because of her and see a lot of her strength in me Ep, 'Synthesis', is for and about my lovely Nan. It references the way in which death in some cases would be a blessing that seems to take forever to come.
Stay Stay was written with the late Tristan Hunter in mind. His life was over too early after a tragic accident in early 2016, RIP.
Still Have you ever had that conversation with a close friend in which you ponder your existence, your life, your death? Me too :) Still aims to bring peace to those questions.
Sonnet A love song
Safe references the need to think and understand that we will die, and in order to enrich our own lives I think it’s important to contemplate this.
Goodnight my darling debut EP release show.
one night only -- feat; music from Mitchell Kirk, UA, and LOTU
Goodnight my darling performed live At Wellington Chocolate Factory for the first time in the support of her debut EP, Levitate. On Levitate she boldly sings about themes of connection through life and death within an entrancing soundscape. GMD performed a lo-fi hip hop and dreamy folktronica show that transported the audience.
Levitate is now available to stream on Soundcloud but don’t miss the chance to see this transcendent performance live with further events on the events tab :)
Gina Kiel, illustrator based in Wellington, New Zealand designed Goodnight my darlings first logo. Her beautiful imagery fits perfectly with Goodnight My Darling’s immersive, dreamy yet dark trip-hop sound.
